Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy and Why you Need it.

PEMF is a form of magnetic therapy that generates a low-level electromagnetic field. This aids in re-establishing cellular voltage, as when cells are injured their cellular voltage is altered causing changes in cellular activity. This can lead to a build-up of toxins in the muscle tissues leading to pain and reduced function and length of the muscle.

PEMF can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions as it has benefits of reducing pain, altering blood flow, aiding in healing of fractures and wounds as well as increasing neural function.

PEMF reduces pain by deactivating the sodium pump within the c nerve fibres which transmit pain, therefore, inhibiting their ability to transmit pain signals and reducing the amount of pain felt by the patient.

PEMF can be used to both increase and decrease blood flow to prevent the formation of bruises and oedema or to increase the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the area to increase the healing rate. Just as heat and cold do.

PEMF aids in fracture healing by attracting osteoblasts (bone cells), increasing bone density and leading to more complete ossification leading to stronger bone formation and quicker healing. PEMF only fracture healing sessions are available to book with us now!

PEMF is often used in neurological cases such as in cases of IVDD in dogs as it re-establishes cellular current and aids in reducing hypersensitivity and increasing nerve regeneration after injury in combination with remedial exercises.

All vet physiotherapy sessions include the use of PEMF if suitable for your pet. If you're unsure of the suitability of your pet please drop us a message and we will discuss what is the best option for your pet.
