Can I do more to prevent common injuries in my dog?
As dedicated dog owners we often put a lot of pressure on ourselves to try to predict what our dogs will do and prevent them from getting hurt. But it's not always possible to stop our dogs doing silly things but it is sometimes possible to make simple changes to our and our dogs lives to help prevent some common dog injuries that I often see as a vet physio.

Working dogs, Pain, Behaviour and Stem Cells
Pain is only recognised as pain once it reaches the brain but to get there first we have nociception (the nerves at the site of injury) these signals are then transduced and transmitted to the spinal cord and to the brain where they are modulated, projected and perceived.

Vet Physio for dogs after surgery? Yes or No?
Surgery recommended by your vet is a brilliant first step and gives your dog a springboard onto the path forward but just like a gymnast using a springboard to get onto the beam that’s just the start of their routine and surgery is just the start of your dog’s rehab journey so what comes next?

What to do when your pet has to rest.
After injury rest and controlled exercise is used to get pets moving again without causing further injury. This is especially important in the case of horse's as they require movement to effectively digest their food. Controlled exercise for horses can include lunging, long-reining and in-hand walking whereas in dogs slow lead walking is most commonly used. Hydrotherapy can be used in certain cases if it is available to you.
